Unintentional Head Trip
For years now I've suffered from bouts of a sort of low grade insomnia. I can go months being unaffected and then have a spell where I simply can't sleep throughout the night. I'm normally in bed by ten on a week night (I know, the old rock and roll lifestyle ain't what it used to be) so that I can get up at six in the morning to get to work nice and early. Over the last few days, I've been waking up anywhere from between half three and four and once I'm awake, I'm awake.
Last night Ly, my dearly beloved, innocently suggested I try some sleeping pills - over the counter, own brand from your local high street chemist type sleeping pills. Tired (literally) of waking up early and feeling knackered, I gave them a go.

I'm Back . . . But Busy
The only problem with going away for a week is then having to catch up with the stuff that lands on your desk during that time . . .
Ly and I had a great time on holiday - we had a little cottage in the middle of nowhere and spent the whole week driving off to places and wandering round, except for the Wednesday where we thought we'd walk to the local pub. 3½ miles in the pouring bloody rain later and we stumbled into the pub like drowned rats. Still, the beer (wonderful Cornish ale called Doom Bar) and the food was good and the very kind landlady gave us a lift back to the cottage to save us walking!
Also had the chance to do some falconry with a whole host of different birds: a Harris hawk, a buzzard, a barn owl, an American sparrowhawk and the largest of the lot, a bloody great Bengal Eagle Owl who was happy either flying on to the perch we held to eat pieces of baby chickens:
or just wandering around on the ground looking up at us and begging for food:
Like I said, really great week away but after a week back in work I'm now ready for another holiday!
Oh, and all being well and weather permitting, I shall be leaping out of an aeroplane on Saturday!
